Princely chamber virtuoso 1756: Virtuosa di Musica di Camera

Chamber musician is an honorary title for instrumentalists and singers, which distinguishes previous work or life's work. In the Federal Republic of Germany, the title is awarded by state or municipal institutions; in the GDR , established music theaters were able to give this name themselves; in earlier times the title was also bestowed by princes or kings.

An increase in the honorary title of chamber musician is the title of chamber virtuoso in some countries .

In a broader sense, the term chamber musician also describes all musicians who play chamber music (music in small ensembles), whereby the term “chamber” goes back to the princely Cammer , the prince's secular private space as opposed to church music. Such compositions, for example, had the title “Sonata da Camera” in historical times.
