The Kammeroper Köln - Musiktheater eV was founded in 1996 by Esther Hilsberg and Inga Hilsberg as a registered non-profit association (with the name Junge Kammeroper Köln - Musiktheater eV) and worked from 1996 to 2007 as a pure touring theater in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The ensemble has performed at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden , among others . In August 2007, the Cologne Chamber Opera also opened its own stage in Cologne-Rodenkirchen . The theater has been located in the Pulheim rolling mill since 2014 , with a theater hall for up to 348 spectators and, in addition to the performances in the main building, continues to be a touring theater throughout the German-speaking region. Around 200 performances per year are presented by the Cologne Chamber Opera in the main building and as guest performances. It is the only private music theater in Germany with a permanent theater.

aims

The promotion of young artists has been one of the main goals of the Cologne Chamber Opera from the start. Graduates and students from higher semesters are regularly given the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and gain their first stage experience. Time and again, up-and-coming talents make the leap to major opera houses after an engagement at the Cologne Chamber Opera.

In addition, children from the age of five should be given age-appropriate access to the world of music theater. The Chamber Opera Cologne offers a wide selection of children's operas as well as special offers for kindergartens and schools.

repertoire

The repertoire includes children's operas, but also large opera, operetta and musical productions, such as:

The production Die kleine Zauberflöte was nominated for the Cologne Children's and Youth Theater Prize in 2009.

Finances

As an unsubsidized private theater, the Cologne Chamber Opera is financed exclusively from the income from touring performances and from entrance fees. Sponsors and sponsors support the work of the non-profit association.
