Esther Hilsberg

Esther Hilsberg (born July 26, 1975 in Berlin ) is a German opera, operetta, lied and concert singer with a coloratura soprano voice , conductor and composer .

Life and artistic work

Esther Hilsberg received her first singing lessons from Kaja Borris , an opera singer from the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin . This was followed by studies at the Cologne University of Music , where she studied singing with Hans Sotin , composition with Johannes Schild and conducting with Volker Wangenheim and Michael Luig. In 2002 she completed her vocal studies with top marks.

She attended master classes for singing with KS Edda Moser , KS Julie Kaufmann , Charlotte Lehmann, Klesie Kelly, Peter Hechfellner and Monika Bürgener.

Hilsberg was a member of the ensemble at the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater Halberstadt and also made guest appearances at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, the Bonn Opera , the Landestheater Detmold , the Theater Nordhausen , the Eduard-von-Winterstein-Theater Annaberg-Buchholz, the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg and the theater Magdeburg (as Queen of the Night ), at the Meininger Theater (as Susanna in The Wedding of Figaro , Karolka in Jenufa and Eva in The Creation ), at the Plauen- Zwickau Theater as Zeitel in Anatevka , as the Snow Queen in the Andersen fairy tale concert and at the Klassik Festival Monschau (as Adele in Die Fledermaus and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte ).

Hilsberg had appearances as a singer a. a. in Cologne Philharmonic , Herkulessaal Munich, Berlin Philharmonic , Liederhalle Stuttgart as well as several radio productions (including live broadcasts with the SWR radio orchestra) and CD productions (including Poulenc's “Gloria” and Haydn's “Nelson-Messe”). The soprano was heard in the main roles in opera, as Gretel, as Anna (in Nicolai's “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor” together with Kurt Moll as Falstaff), as Pamina (in “Die Zauberflöte”, among others as part of a tour of the “Junge Chamber Opera Cologne "at the Bregenz Festival), as Adele (" Die Fledermaus ") and Countess (" The Marriage of Figaro "). She appeared in the title role at the world premiere of the family opera "Mio, mein Mio" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Until 2008 she was engaged at the Freiberg Theater. Her roles included a. the nightingale ("The Birds" by Walter Braunfels ), Rosina ("Barber of Seville") and Ilia ("Idomeneo"). Since then, engagements and a. at the Annaberg-Buchholz Theater as “Queen of the Night”, at the Freiberg Theater as “Woman” in a scenic “Carmina burana”, at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as a nightingale in the children's opera “The Chinese Nightingale” composed by her, at the Chamber Opera in Cologne as "Hanna Glawari" and "Mimi", as well as at the Seoul Opera House (South Korea) as Pamina, and also at the Aachen Theater as Pamina in "The Magic Flute". Most recently she appeared at the Coburg Theater as a nightingale in “The Chinese Nightingale”, at the Aachen Theater as Adele in “Die Fledermaus”, at the Opera Zuid as Queen of the Night in “The Magic Flute” and at the Gera Theater as Rosina in “The Barber of Seville".

Esther Hilsberg is also a successful composer. In addition to choral works, her focus is particularly on children's operas and musicals. Her operas "The Chinese Nightingale", "The Snow Queen" and the "Nutcracker" achieved over 250 performances. So far the following musical works have been published by her:

Her children's operas have now been performed at several large theaters, for example “The Snow Queen” was on the program at the Halberstadt Theater and “The Chinese Nightingale” was on the program in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons at the Coburg Theater. In the 2012/13 season “The Chinese Nightingale” was shown at the Lüneburg Theater.

The musical “Barricade” composed by her, which is in part marketed as “Les Misérables”, met with divided opinion from the audience.
