Kamchatka Superbolide
The Kamchatka Super bolide refers to a racing car , which in the stratosphere , 18 December 2018 23:48 ( UTC ) on the Bering Sea km 300 of the peninsula Kamchatka exploded. The approximately 10 m large asteroid entered the earth's atmosphere at 32 km / s and detonated at an altitude of 25.6 km, releasing a TNT equivalent of 173 kT. The event was detected by the Terra and Himawari 8 satellites and by the CTBTO's monitoring network, but was not published until March 2019.
Astrophysicist Peter Brown of the University of Western Ontario , Canada found it in the archived data from the CTBTO. Brown published its results in March 2019.
