The Kuni no Katachi Kenkyūkai ( Japanese 国 の か た ち 研究 会 , dt. "Research Council for the State of the Country") is a faction of the Japanese Constitutional Democratic Party ( KDP for short ) around the House of Commons Naoto Kan and is therefore also known as Kan- Group ( 菅 グ ル ー プ , Kan gurūpu ). It has its origins in the Democratic Party , whose party was co-founder Kan. Another leader was Satsuki Eda , President of the House of Lords from 2007 to 2010. The faction once had over 60 members from both parliamentary groups (2006, 2007 and 2010), currently (2020) there are 15 members of the lower house and 4 members of the upper house.

The faction is an advocate of a social liberal party profile, is involved in questions of human and civil rights and wanted to push back the influence of the ministerial bureaucracy on politics during the DPJ times.
