Kankar (also called Kunkur ) is a geological name or expression for a specific type of sediment , derived from the Hindi language in India . The sediment is found in India, Australia, and the United States , often as nodular calcium carbonate that formed in soils of semi- arid regions.

The sediment forms sprinkles in alluvial layers and is often referred to as an interrupted layering in nodular kankar or as an embedded layer in stratigraphic profiles as Kalkret, Hardpan or Durikrust.
