Kanta Khamsatowitsch Ibragimow ( Chechen / Russian Канта Хамзатович Ибрагимов, born July 9, 1960 in Grozny , Checheno-Ingush ASSR ) is a Russian writer of Chechen origin who writes mainly in Russian.

Life

Ibragimov was born in Grozny in the Chechen-Ingush ASSR . His father, Khamzat Ibragimov, was a scientist, the founder of the Academy of Science in Chechnya. After graduating from the Chechen State University in Economics in 1982, he worked as an economist on the Dzhalka State Farm in Shali District. In 1987 he entered the Russian State Agricultural University . In 1990 he was awarded the degree of candidate in economic sciences and was appointed deputy director of the Chechen Science and Production Association Sevkavneftegaz (Grozny). In 1991 he worked as a specialist in the first category of the Council of Ministers of the Chechen Republic, from 1992 to 1994 he was deputy director of the Alam Environmental Center for Science and Research (Grozny).

After the beginning of the conflict in the Chechen Republic, he moved to Moscow, where in 1995 he entered the doctoral program of the Russian State Agricultural University in Moscow. In 1996 he defended his doctoral thesis on "Organizational and economic problems of developing and improving the efficiency of fruit growing under market conditions". In 1999 he was appointed Deputy Head of the Department of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation in Moscow. Since 2004 he has been an academic at the Academy of Sciences of the Chechen Republic and since 2009 Chairman of the Society of Writers of Chechnya.

It was not until the age of 38 that he began to write novels: The first book "Past Wars" - was published in 1999. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Writers 'Union of the Chechen Republic and the Writers' Union of the Russian Federation. Since 2009 he has headed the Writers' Union of the Chechen Republic.

In 2010 he was nominated by the Nobel Committee of the Swedish Academy of Sciences for the Nobel Prize for Literature for the novel "Children's World", first published in 2005.

In 2012 he was nominated again for the Nobel Prize for Literature for the novel "Aurora".
