Klevenow Chapel
The Klevenow Chapel is a church building of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District in the Klevenow district of the Süderholz community in the Vorpommern-Rügen district . The former “castle chapel”, which is under monument protection , belongs to the Evangelical Parish of Grimmen .
The chapel was built on a remnant of the Klevenow castle ramparts . There are different details about the construction time, after which the building was erected either shortly after 1650 or 1730.
The building is a rectangular half-timbered hall construction with a mansard roof . The west portal is on a small vestibule. Inside, the ceiling is designed as a wooden barrel and painted with tendrils and angels. The portal frame has wooden pilasters on the inside and a gable crowned with a coat of arms. The pulpit altar dates from around 1735. The pulpit basket is framed by composite pillars placed across corners. It bears the coat of arms of the von Wakenitz and von Gühlen families . In the crown there is a sound cover with a strut crown. Two carved figures represent Maria and Johannes. The lectern and chairs are from the 18th century.
The roof was renovated in 1997 and the walls and floor were renovated in 2003. Due to quality defects in the renovation of the timber framing , a renewed conservation and reconstruction of half-timbering, windows and floors was started in 2015, funded by the German Foundation for Monument Protection .
