Chapel of Sant'Agostino of Chera

Sant'Agostino of Chera

The ruins of the chapel of Sant'Agostino in Chera are located near the town of Chera in southern Corsica , about twelve kilometers north of Bonifacio .

Slightly pink granite and white limestone create a play of colors in the building material, which is an indication of the stylistic development towards polychrome masonry. The ruins of the chapel from the end of the 9th or beginning of the 10th century may have been a gentleman's foundation. The large semicircular arch of the choir wall with its carefully carved wedge stones is noteworthy.

The west facade increases an intact espadaña (bell gable) slightly offset from the Romanesque portal with lintel. The eastern gable with an openwork Greek cross is only partially preserved.
