Chapel of St. Agatha

The Catholic St. Agatha Chapel is a listed church building in Menkhausen , a district of Schmallenberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

The listed chapel was built in 1667. In addition to Antonius Dorlar Sabinus, many residents took part in the construction work. During the Second World War, the bronze bell was drawn in but not melted down. It was then replaced by a metal bell. The original bronze bell was reinstalled in the tower in 1993 after repairs. A year later it got an electric drive. The tower and the north side of the chapel roof received a new slate roof in 1999. The external plaster of the quarry stone masonry was last renewed in 2002.

architecture

The single-nave chapel with a 5/8 choir has a small tower on the west side and an ogival entrance on the south side. The inscription "ERECTUM AB ANTONIO DORLAR SABINO ET AB INCOLIS HULUS PAGI A´O 1667" is attached to the gallery.
