The St. Josef Chapel is a church building attached to the Roman Catholic rectory of Vohenstrauss (Pfarrgasse 22).

history

The St. Josef chapel was originally located in the Vohenstrauss Capuchin monastery . Around 1710 a public chapel was founded here in the Capuchin hospice (Pfarrgasse 9). The hospice was occupied by the Capuchins after the great fire of 1763; they could work here up to secularization . The Capuchin monastery then served as the Roman Catholic rectory of Vohenstrauss.

As early as 1899, efforts were made in Vohenstrauss to replace the dilapidated old rectory with a new building. The Regensburg architect Heinrich Hauberrisser worked out the blueprint for a new rectory with a chapel next to the existing children's asylum . Construction began on July 19, 1904 by master builder Johann Ach, the foundation stone was laid by Pastor Eduard Greiner. In the letter of approval from the diocese of Regensburg , the pastor was informed that the chapel had to be a completely independent building that was to be used exclusively for church services. St. Joseph was established as the church patron . On June 30, 1905, the chapel was completed and on July 7, 1905, Auxiliary Bishop Sigismund Felix von Ow-Felldorf gave it a name.

Church building

The church is a rectangular building with three side supports. Today there is a canopy over the church entrance. In 1966 the chapel was renovated and the entire wooden furnishings were lightened. In 1987 underfloor heating was installed, and a statue of Joseph was also set up.

Interior design

The interior of the church, especially the gallery , is reminiscent of the Romanesque period . The visible roof structure is arched like a barrel. Two neo-Gothic windows stand out in the chancel.
