The St. Stephen chapel in Cologne-Weiden

St. Stephanus is a Roman Catholic chapel in the Weiden district of Cologne . The small sacred building is also known as the Üsdorfer Chapel and is under number 5 on the Lindenthal cultural path. It is looked after by a support association of the Catholic parish of St. Marien in Cologne-Weiden.

history

The chapel, consecrated to the holy arch-martyr Stephen , is essentially based on a Gothic building. It was first mentioned in a document in 1407 as the chapel of the Engelshof in what was then the hamlet of Uesdorf. The Engelshof was owned by the St. Maria ad Gradus monastery in Cologne . The chapel was taken care of by clergymen from St. Severin in Lövenich .

In the course of the Truchsessian War , the church was destroyed between 1583 and 1588 and restored in 1629. Presumably it has not been used in worship since secularization .

The Engelshof was demolished in the 1970s and the building was donated to the Catholic parish. In 2000 the parish association was founded to promote the Üsdorfer chapel, which maintains and looks after it.

Since January 18, 1982, the chapel has been entered in the list of monuments of the city of Cologne under number 913 .
