Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Orzysz)
The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the first Catholic church after the Reformation in Orzysz ( Arys ), a city in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .
After the secularization of the Duchy of Prussia in 1525, Arys was Protestant. Only at the end of the 19th century, due to the Arys military training area , there was a small Catholic minority. In 1913 the chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was opened. It was subordinate to the Catholic Church in Johannisburg . In 1937 there were 151 Catholics in Arys. After 1945 the Marienkirche became Catholic and today serves as a parish church for the majority of the Catholic-Polish population. Nevertheless, the chapel was and is still used by the Catholic population. In 2010 the dilapidated facade was renovated.
