Kapp Werkzeugmaschinen is a manufacturer of machines and tools for fine machining of gears and profiles. Around a third of sales are made in Germany and two thirds with international businesses. The company was founded in 1953 and is based in Coburg ( Bavaria ).

history

In 1953, Bernhard Kapp , partner and managing director of Waldrich Coburg since 1950 , founded Maschinenfabrik Kapp & Co. The company started its activities with the continuation of the production program of woodworking machines from COMAG (Coburger Maschinenbau GmbH), the plants of which were purchased.

In 1958, the company started manufacturing tool grinding machines . Machines for surface and profile grinding as well as milling machines were built. According to the company, Kapp built the world's largest hob grinding machine in 1975. In 1977, Bernhard Kapp left Waldrich and devoted his professional activities only to his own company.

This has been supplying profile grinding machines and the like since the 1980s. a. for the aircraft and vehicle industries as well as for transmission manufacturers worldwide. In 1981 the first non-dressable profile grinding wheel with CBN technology was developed. In the 1980s, four additional subsidiaries were founded, Kapp Technologies in the USA, Kapp Technologie in Coburg, Kapp Tec in Brazil and Kapp Japan Technologies in Japan.

In 1997 Kapp GmbH took over Niles Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH in Berlin with 80 employees. Niles goes back to a company founded in 1898 by the American tool manufacturer Niles Tool Works and had grinding machines for large gears in its portfolio . In 2006, Kapp Asia Technologies was founded in the People's Republic of China.

In 2012 the family owned Kapp group manufactured 150 machines. In 2014, the group of companies with 850 employees worldwide offered a wide range of machine tools for hard fine machining of gears and profiles. External or internal gears for applications in the vehicle, aviation and compressor industries, drive technology, energy and wind power, rail technology, raw material extraction and shipbuilding can be ground with it.

Production profile

The Coburg plant specializes in grinding machines for machining gears, as used in particular in the automotive industry.
