Bernhard Kapp

Bernhard Kapp (born March 19, 1921 in Stuttgart ; † July 13, 2014 in Coburg ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

After graduating from high school, Bernhard Kapp took part in World War II as a soldier for over five years , most recently as an officer. He then studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart , where he became a member of the Corps Stauffia . In 1950 he joined the Waldrich Coburg company as a designer , which he managed together with his brother-in-law Otto Waldrich as managing partner until 1977 and which brought it to world renown. In 1953 he also founded the machine factory Kapp & Co. in Coburg , which specialized in the construction of tool grinding machines and in 1981 brought the world's first profile grinding wheel with CBN technology onto the market.

From 1971 to 1999 he was chairman of the Association of German Machine Tool Builders. From 1978 to 1981 he was President of the Association of German Mechanical and Plant Engineering . He was twice president of the Comité de coopération des industries de la machine-outil , also vice-president of the Federation of German Industries and member of the large German-Soviet commission for economic and scientific-technical cooperation. He was seen as a champion of German mechanical engineering and against state industrial policy, protectionism and unilateral state funding of research projects in large-scale industry. He made numerous contributions to promoting engineering training.
