Otto Waldrich

Otto Waldrich (born September 11, 1923 in Coburg ; † July 15, 2017 ) was a German entrepreneur , long-time owner of the Waldrich Coburg company , art patron and honorary citizen of the city of Coburg.

Live and act

In the machine factory of his father, Adolf Waldrich, Otto Waldrich learned the trades of machine fitter and technical draftsman . Due to differences with his father, Waldrich moved to the Nürtingen mechanical engineering company Gebr. Heller in the post-war period . After his father's death in 1950, he and his brother-in-law Bernhard Kapp took over the management of what was then the Adolf Waldrich machine factory . In 1986 he sold the family business to the Ingersoll group for reasons of age and left the management in 1990.

Waldrich was a member of the full assembly of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Coburg from 1958 to 1989 and was then made an honorary member. From 1960 to 1990 he worked on a voluntary basis as a member of the CSU parliamentary group in the Coburg city council. For this he was awarded the Golden Ring of Honor of the City of Coburg and the City Medal in Silver.

Waldrich was one of the great sponsors of the Coburg State Foundation in numerous projects . He also supported other social and cultural institutions. For example, he contributed a large part of the investment of around 5.17 million euros for the new building of the European Museum for Modern Glass near Rosenau Castle .

Waldrich died on July 15, 2017 at the age of 93.
