Kapula

Kapula is the name of a South African candle factory and at the same time the brand name of the candles made there with ornate decoration .

Kapula candles have traditionally been manufactured in Bredasdorp , South Africa , and exported all over the world since 1994 . The employees also manufacture ceramic objects , textiles and accessories . UNICEF is one of the buyers of the candles . In Germany, for example, you can find such art objects at Christmas markets.

The company was founded by Ilse Appelgryn, who learned how to make candles from her mother. She initially hired four more women and named the company Kapula Candles . The Kapula Gallery was opened for sale in 1999 . The company grew in a relatively short period of time until it employed 200 people. In 2000 the founder of the company received the Western Cape Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Black Management Forum .
