The Karabaier is a horse breed from Uzbekistan with the typical structure of a heavy warmblood.

Exterior

The appearance of the Karabai resembles the races of the steppe as well as the Arabs, Persians and Turkmens. It has a medium-sized, neatly cut head with a straight profile or rams head, wide gaiters, a medium-length crown and a high-set medium-length neck. Some karabaiers also have shorter, heavily muscled necks. The withers are of average length and height. The back is broad, short and sometimes soft. The loins are of medium length and well muscled. The croup is sloping and sometimes steeply sloping. The shoulder blade is of medium length and sometimes not oblique enough. The chest is well developed. The front legs are better developed than the rear legs. The legs are correctly set, dry and strong, with well developed tendons. The pastern joint is sometimes underdeveloped due to insufficient feeding and the hind legs are sometimes cow-hocked.

Stallions are 156 m tall, mares 1.51 m.

interior

The Karabaier is a persistent horse with versatile skills. The records of the races in races are 1:54 minutes for 1.6 km and 2:51 minutes for 2.4 km. In endurance races, Karabai made 14 km in 22 minutes and 34.6 seconds and 25 km in 42 minutes and 6 seconds. The Karabai is very efficient over long distances. The best time for 75 km was 3 hours and 32 minutes. In the harness with a load of 600 kg he covered 1.6 km in 5 minutes and 51 seconds, with a load of 2000 kg he needed 14 minutes and 45 seconds.

The Karabaier has good health and a normal fertility of 75 to 85 foals per 100 mares per year.

Breeding history

The Karabai is one of the oldest races in Central Asia. It was developed in Uzbekistan and northern Tajikistan . He was influenced by horse breeds from the steppe and South Asian breeds. It has the typical structure of a heavy warmblood.

Today the Karabai is bred throughout the Uzbek Republic and there are about 1500 stallions and 3900 broodmares.

The breed has three types, a medium type, a heavy type, and a riding horse type. There are eight stallion lines and five mare lines. The main studs are in the Jizak region. The breeding is operated as pure breeding with a closed stud book.
