It was not until the end of the 20th century that the ornithologist Frank Lambert “discovered” the Karakelong keel rail (Amaurornis magnirostris) and Talaud island rail (Gymnocrex talaudensis) on Karakelong, which were previously unknown to science . The diademed lory (Eos histrio) and the Talaud flying fox are also endemic here . The South Asian water bat has a wider distribution . Other bird species indigenous here are for example the monk's caterpillar catcher (Edolisoma tenuirostre) , the cinnamon paradise flycatcher (Terpsiphone cinnamomea) , the gray-headed monarch (Monarcha cinerascens) and the Talautliest (Todiramphus enigma) . The native Candoia paulsoni is one of the Pacific boas .
