Karatsu Kunchi ( Japanese. 唐 津 く ん ち ; kunchi means a festival that is celebrated on the 9th day of the 9th month) is a Japanese festival that takes place annually in the city of Karatsu , Saga Prefecture on the island of Kyushu . The festival begins on the evening of November 2nd and lasts until November 4th. It is characterized by daily parades of fourteen massive rafts called hikiyama in the shape of samurai helmets ( kabuto ), sea ​​bream , dragons and other fantastic creatures made of wood, lacquer and other materials. The three-day festival with 150,000 to 500,000 visitors is the largest event in the region.
