Sa'd al-Saltaneh caravanserai
The caravanserai of Sa'd al-Saltaneh or Sa'd ol-Saltaneh ( Persian مجموعه سعدالسیطنه, DMG Maǧmuʿeh Saʿad al-Saltaneh ) is a caravanserai named after its builder Sa'd al-Saltaneh Isfahani in the bazaar of the Iranian city of Qazvin . It was built during the Qajar dynasty on the site of the former Safavid palace district and is one of the best-preserved urban caravanserais and one of the largest traditional trading establishments in Iran.
The building , which is laid out on a square floor plan, has four ivans that lead onto the central courtyard. The octagonal room ( Hashti ) behind the southern iwan has a large dome (Pers. Gonbad ), which is adjoined by four semi-domes. The east-west axis of the Hashti is called Dālān-e Qeisarieh (Caesar Hall) and is directly connected to the bazaar. The north-south axis is called Dālān-e Ghahremāni (Heroes Hall). To the east and west of the central courtyard are two further small courtyards.
The entire complex has numerous vaults and arches that were built almost exclusively from bricks. The rooms for travelers (so-called Hujreh s) are located one meter above the courtyard and are decorated with muqarnas and Rasmi bandis.
To the south of the facility there are two large courtyards where animals used to be kept and goods were loaded and unloaded. The caravanserai is bounded in the north by Imam Khomeini Street, the main street Qazvin. A winding corridor of the bazaar runs along its western boundary. The Nabi mosque and a bathhouse are in the immediate vicinity .
