Kardinalsweg is the name of a 24.1 km long pilgrimage route in the Lower Saxony district of Vechta , which leads from the former Benedictine monastery , the Priory of St. Benedikt , in Damme to Dinklage Castle . The path is named after Cardinal Clemens August Graf von Galen , to whose birthplace, Dinklage Castle, it leads.

The Cardinal Path is divided into four stages. At the beginning and end of each stage there is a station that is marked by an iron stele . The five stations are reminiscent of virtues that were exemplarily embodied by the Blessed Cardinal Count von Galen. A motto is affixed to each of the steles, namely:

On the way to the Bexaddetal, the Kardinalsweg crosses a few meters after its start with the Pickerweg, a long-distance hiking trail that is part of the network of Jakobsweges in Germany. Both paths run parallel to each other to the left and right of the Bexadde stream and cross a second time upstream. Coming from Dinklage, at the second junction of the pilgrimage routes, you can turn towards Santiago de Compostela .

The path was officially inaugurated on October 28, 2018 with a pilgrimage and a celebration at Dinklage Castle.

The idea for the construction of the pilgrimage route came to the managing director of the tourist information recreation area Dammer Berge in 2013. Guided hikes along the way are carried out by a retired Salvatorian priest from the former monastery in Damme.

In September 2019, a “forest chapel” was consecrated on Kardinalsweg, 900 m away from Heidesee Holdorf.
