Karen Ashotovich Grigoryan

Karen Aschotowitsch Grigorjan ( Russian Карен Ашотович Григорян ; born September 7, 1947 in Moscow , † October 30, 1989 in Yerevan ) was a Soviet chess player.

Karen Grigorjan won the Moscow championship in 1975 and 1979. The championship of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic he won in 1970, at the championships of 1969 and 1972 he won together with his brother Levon Grigorjan . In 1980 he finished third in the Baku tournament behind the eventual world champions Garri Kasparow and Alexander Beliavsky . In 1982, FIDE awarded him the title of International Master . His highest rating was 2500 in 1978.

In 1989, Karen Grigoryan committed suicide by jumping from the highest bridge in Yerevan.
