Karen Patricia Brancourt , after marriage to Pollock , (born March 15, 1962 ) is a former Australian rower . In 1984 she was part of the crew that won the first Olympic medal in women's rowing for Australia.

At the first two Olympic regattas in women's rowing in Montreal in 1976 and in Moscow in 1980 , the winning boats came from Bulgaria, the GDR, Romania and the USSR and most of the medal winners came from these countries. Because of the Olympic boycott of these four teams only Romania was at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Australian rowers had not won an Olympic medal by then. In Los Angeles, in addition to the single rower Jaqui Marshall, there was a four-man with a helmswoman , consisting of Robyn Gray-Gardner , Karen Brancourt, Susan Chapman , Margot Foster and helmsman Susan Lee . The Australians took second place behind the Canadians in the preliminary run and qualified for the final with a second place in the hope run behind the boat from the United States. In the final, the four-man from Romania won with two seconds ahead of the Canadians, behind them the Australians won the bronze medal with 0.29 seconds ahead of the boat from the United States.
