Karen Tovmasjan

Karen Tovmasjan (born August 5, 1990 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , USSR ) is a Dutch weightlifter of Armenian origin.

Life

Tovmasjan, born in Armenia, started weight training in Amsterdam at the age of 14. In 2006, shortly before his 16th birthday, he took part in the European Youth Championships for the first time. In 2008 he was tested positive for metandienone in a doping control and banned for four years. In 2013 he was the first Dutchman to take part in the European championships for active athletes in the A group of the top ten in the 85 kg class. He set a new Dutch record in snatch with 148 kg, but had no valid attempt in pushing. At the World Championships in the same year he finished 19th in 2014 at the European Championships in a duel in sixth and in snatch fourth.
