Karin Proidl

Karin Proidl was the Austrian ambassador in Buenos Aires from 2013 to 2017 with the office of Argentina , Uruguay and Paraguay .

University education

Karin Proidl obtained her doctorate in law from the University of Vienna . She also received the Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies in international law and law of international organizations from the University of Paris.

Professional career

Karin Proidl spent two years studying and working in Paris. There she did an internship in a French law firm. She has been a member of the Austrian diplomatic service since January 1992. At the beginning she worked in the international law office, in the department for general international law and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as at the permanent representation of Austria at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. From 1994 to 1999 she was a permanent representation of Austria to the United Nations  in New York. She was in the cabinet of the Foreign Minister from 1999 to 2000. She then worked from 2000 to 2001 in the International Law Office in the Human Rights Department. In addition, she was in the Foreign Ministry and head of the department for issues relating to the international protection of ethnic groups and minorities, non-discrimination and the international fight against racism and xenophobia. From 2001 to 2002 she was deputy director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in  London. She was Deputy Head of Mission at the Austrian Embassy in Tel Aviv from 2002 to 2005. She was in the Cabinet of the Foreign Minister from 2005 to 2009. From 2009 to 2013 she was Consul General of the Republic of Austria in Los Angeles with responsibility for the Western United States.
