Life

After an internship in Albrecht Kiedaisch's studio in Tübingen, she studied ceramics at the " Istituto statale d'Arte " in Florence with Salvatore and Stefano Cipolla from 1982. She then opened her own studio and experimented with various local types of clay, glazes and firing techniques attending workshops by John Colbeck she completed postgraduate studies at Goldsmiths College of the University of London .

She received further ideas for her work at seminars with Takeshi Yasuda, Ruthanne Tudball, Wally Keeler and Daphne Corregan. She has won various awards and is particularly well known for her work in raku technique . Her works are regularly shown in exhibitions and can be found in various European museums and private collections.

Putsch-Grassi's artistic development is characterized by ever new impulses in dealing with different materials and techniques as well as the diverse relationship between form and surface. The technique she calls “CUT & STRETCH” works with incisions in the surface, which are then pulled and stretched. The uneven thickness and consistency of the clay result in unpredictable crevices and fissures.

Karin Putsch-Grassi lives with her family in Reggello in Tuscany .
