Karin Schumacher (therapist)

Karin Schumacher (born 1950 in Graz ) is an Austrian-German music therapist and child and adolescent psychotherapist .

Life

In the 1970s, Schumacher studied music therapy at the Vienna University of Music and elementary music and movement education at the Orff Institute in Salzburg . She is a student of the music therapist Gertrud Orff . From 1974 to 1982 she worked as a music therapist at the Berlin-Spandau mental hospital . Since 1984 she has taught as a professor in the music therapy course at the Berlin University of the Arts . In 1998 she did her doctorate at the Institute for Music Therapy at the University of Music and Theater Hamburg with the topic: "Music Therapy and Infant Research". In 2000 she received her license to practice medicine as a child and adolescent psychotherapist.

Her focus is on working with autistic children , for whose scientific research she developed the evaluation instrument "Assessment of the relationship quality EBQ". International she was u. a. Lecturer at the Vienna University of Music, the University of Music and Performing Arts in Oslo and the Pedagogical University in Vilnius .
