Karin Sommer was an advertising character who was active in television commercials and print ads for the Jacobs coffee brand between 1972 and 1985 .

The character of Karin Sommer lived with her husband Peter and their two sons in the country and clichéd embodied the image of the good housewife, whose greatest ability is to bring aromatic coffee to the table. Typically, it was the rescue at a family celebration after half-full cups remain on the table. The housewife was then saved by the natural and honest Karin Sommer, who pulled out a packet of Jacobs coffee.

Karin Sommer was played by Xenia Katzenstein (* 1943), an Austrian actress who was Miss Austria in 1963 , later third in the Miss International competition . She is the daughter of the graphic artist Margit Doppler (née Kovacs), an assistant to Joseph Binder . Until December 31, 2003 she headed the agency Xenia Katzenstein in Vienna.
Aftermath
After just three months, 25 percent of German housewives knew their alter ego. In the Katz-und-Goldt comic book When Adopted Bring Death Into the House (1997), a story with the title Karin is about the character of Karin Sommer.
