Karl-Heinz Hinz (called "Mc Hinz" in glider pilot circles) (* 1919 ; † November 27, 2010 ) was an important German master sailplane builder from Darmstadt and a pioneer of fiber composite construction in (sail) aircraft construction .

Hinz had been with the Academic Aviation Group Darmstadt eV (Akaflieg Darmstadt) at the Technical University of Darmstadt for over 50 years , where he worked for many years as a workshop manager. He has made decisive contributions to the introduction of the so-called fiber composite construction, also known as fiberglass construction (GRP), in (sail) aircraft construction since the end of the 1950s. He was co-developer and responsible workshop manager for the aircraft D-34 to D-39 of Akaflieg Darmstadt.

Akaflieg Darmstadt has been researching, building and flying successfully innovative glider types from 1920 to the present day, with the prototypes from the first paper sketch to the finished aircraft being created voluntarily by the association members. As workshop manager, Hinz played a key role in developing and promoting these prototype developments, some of which were incorporated into series aircraft construction. The motor glider prototype D-39b in GRP construction received the additional designation "Mc Hinz" in his honor.
