Karl Blömer grew up in a village near Cologne and learned a trade. He did gymnastics and boxing until he was 18 , before a newsreel report on a Mr. Universe poll led him to start bodybuilding. He bought the studio in 1966, and a year later he took part in a competition for the first time: He came fourth in the election for Mr. Universe of Amateurs. He won the title of Mr. Germany in 1970. A year later he became Mr. Universum in the "tall class" of the IFBB .

At the age of 41, he made a comeback when he and Jusup Wilkosz and Reinhard Heyd took fifth place in the team classification of the Mr. Universum competition.

In addition to Cologne, Blömer also ran fitness studios in Essen and Düsseldorf, the last of which he sold for reasons of age at the turn of the millennium.

In the seventies and eighties, Blömer appeared occasionally in cinema and television films.
