Karl Blankenberger , called Bubi Blankenberger (* May 8, 1921 , † August 5, 1956 ), was a German football player .

career

Blankenberger, who played as an attacker , initially belonged to the Blau-Weiß Worms club before moving to Wormatia Worms in 1946 , where he stayed until 1955. During this time, he once took part in the German soccer championship for his club in 1949 and played in nine consecutive game seasons in the Southwest Soccer League .

"Bubi" Blankenberger was an excellent technician and playmaker who was also a dangerous scorer for Wormatia. In the statistics of the Oberliga Südwest he is led from 1946 to 1955 with 178 games and 128 goals. With the red and white Wormatia he celebrated the runner-up in the Southwest four times in 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1955. In the final round of the German soccer championship, however, he only took part in the two games against Kickers Offenbach in 1949 . The first game ended on June 12th in Kaiserslautern 2-2 after extra time and in the replay the Hessians prevailed on June 19th on the KFV-Platz at the Telegrafenkaserne in Karlsruhe in front of 35,000 spectators with 2-0 goals. In 1950 the team from the Nibelungenstadt failed in the qualification, in 1951 only the Southwest Champion was admitted and in 1955 the long-time striker had the league game on November 7, 1954 in the Wormatia Stadium against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in front of 17,000 spectators - 0: 1 -Defeat - his career in the league already ended.

After the end of his career as an active player, Blankenberger was in 1955 and 1956 coach of the amateur club FSV Abenheim.
