Karl Deutsch is the name of a family company that develops and manufactures devices for non-destructive testing of materials . The company is located in Wuppertal in the Elberfeld-West district .

In 1948 Karl Deutsch took part in the Hanover Fair with the prototype of a coating thickness measuring device. A year later, Karl Deutsch founded his company in Wuppertal. In the beginning, devices and machines for ultrasonic testing and crack testing were mainly developed and manufactured. In the early 1960s, magnetic particle crack detectors were added to the product range. In 1961, Volker Deutsch joins the company as managing director.

In the following years, under the direction of Volker Deutsch, the development and manufacture of innovative products in the fields of ultrasonic testing , ultrasonic probes, ultrasonic systems, wall and layer thickness gauges, magnetic powder devices, magnetic powder and dye penetrants took place. In the mid-1960s, the company started manufacturing magnetic powder crack detection media. In 1967 Plant 1 was rebuilt on Otto-Hausmann-Ring .

In the early 1970s, the world's first digital ultrasonic testing device was presented at an international conference. In 1974, the company's founder, Ing.Karl Deutsch, dies. In 1978, Plant 2 was rebuilt, also on Otto-Hausmann-Ring , in order to meet the increasing space requirements in plant construction. At the end of the 1970s, the ultrasonic CS technology (frequency-selective excitation of ultrasound) was presented internationally.

1985 Volker Deutsch is appointed honorary professor at the Technical University of Dortmund . In the 1980s, Karl Deutsch developed the world's first microprocessor-based ultrasonic testing device. In the mid-1990s, the world's smallest device for coating thickness measurement, the so-called pocket leptoscope series, was introduced to this day. In 2004, the assembly area was doubled by adding a hall to Plant 2.

Today Karl Deutsch is a leading German company in the field of non-destructive materials testing with an export share of 60%. The company has 40 agencies and branches in China , Brazil , Japan , South Africa and Saudi Arabia, among others . Karl Deutsch is the leading manufacturer in the market for magnetic particle testing devices in Germany. All major industrial sectors are supplied; the focus is on the steel industry and the automotive industry . All Karl Deutsch products are completely developed, manufactured and finally assembled in Wuppertal.

The company has been run in the third generation by Wolfram A. Karl Deutsch since 2001.
