Karl Gusenleitner

Karl Gusenleitner (* 1893 in Ottensheim ; † 1980 in Wels ) was an Austrian doctor and mayor of the city of Wels for a short time in 1945 .

Life

Gusenleitner studied medicine in Graz and became a member of the Catholic student union K.Ö.HV Carolina Graz . Later he worked at the gynecological clinic in Wels and made it to the primary doctor.

On May 3, 1945, there was a resistance against the collapsing Nazi rule by a soldiers' committee, which Gusenleitner offered the office of mayor, which he accepted. As a Catholic, he was considered an opponent of the Nazis and was unencumbered, the Americans confirmed him as Mayor of the city on May 4th.
