Karl Heß (lawyer)

Karl Heß (born January 13, 1900 in Darmstadt ; died April 15, 1975 in Brazil ) was a lawyer and chairman of Darmstadt 98 .

Life

Karl Heß was born in Darmstadt in 1900. He was of Jewish faith. After graduating from high school, he studied law and settled as a lawyer in Darmstadt.

From 1924 he was first deputy chairman and from 1928 chairman of Darmstadt 98. In the course of the seizure of power by the NSDAP and the Aryanization of the clubs and associations, he was forced out of office. He also lost his license to practice law. He fled to Brazil with his family. In 1963 he returned to Darmstadt and was employed in the city's legal office until his retirement in 1968. At the age of 73 he returned to his son who lived in Brazil. He died there in April 1975.

  • 2017: The square in front of the Böllenfalltorstadion is named after Karl Heß.
