Karl Hofreiter (* in Eger ; also Karl Hofreuter ) was a German painter .

According to the current state of research, Hofreiter is artistically verifiable in the years 1724 and 1736. Whether Hofreiter really was the grandson of the painter Kaspar Hofreuter from Eger remains (until now) speculation.

Hofreiter is still known today for his design of the library room of the Waldsassen monastery . In 1724 Hofreiter decorated this hall with several scenes from the life of Bernhard von Clairvaux ; The plasterer Jacopo Appiani created the frame for these pictures .
