The Karlshofbrunnen was created in 1969 by Ottmar Hollmann from marble, concrete and bronze, which with its octagonal floor plan is reminiscent of the octagon of Aachen Cathedral . The bronze reliefs show the “ Seven Liberal Arts ” of Roman antiquity on seven sides . The eighth field provides a summary of all seven arts.

The seven arts presented are on the one hand the Trivium and the Quadrivium , both groups together formed the subject matter of the " Artist Faculties "
