Charlemagne Youth Prize
The Charlemagne Youth Prize , full shape European Charlemagne Youth Prize is a prize that from the after Charlemagne named Charlemagne Prize was created. The Charlemagne Youth Prize honors projects of young people who “contribute to understanding in Europe and the world, promote the development of a common feeling of a European identity and European integration, serve as role models for young people living in Europe and give them practical examples of living together give the Europeans as a community ”. The Charlemagne Youth Prize aims to promote the development of European awareness among young people and their participation in projects for European integration. The sponsors are the European Parliament and the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation in Aachen. The award ceremony takes place annually in advance of the Charlemagne Prize in Aachen .

The Charlemagne Youth Prize is a joint initiative of the former President of the European Parliament , Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering , who is also a member of the Charlemagne Prize Board, and the Honorary Chairman of the Charlemagne Prize Foundation, Dr. André Leysen, back. The aim was to win the hearts and commitment of young people. In a competition, young Europeans should be honored who are particularly exemplary in their commitment and who actively participate in shaping Europe with projects and ideas. On September 27, 2007 the "European Charlemagne Prize for Youth" was decided by the Presidium of the European Parliament. On April 29, 2008 the first award ceremony took place in Aachen. Since then, the prize has been awarded annually in the run-up to the Charlemagne Prize.
Competition procedure
The prize is advertised and supported annually by the representations of the European Parliament in the member states of the EU. The announcement is distributed via the website of the Charlemagne Youth Prize, press releases, etc. The age of the participants should be between 16 and 30 years. You must be a citizen of one of the 28 member states of the European Union or have your place of residence there. The winners will be selected in a two-stage process. In the first stage, national selection juries made up of at least two members of the European Parliament and one representative of youth organizations decide. Each country has a national award winner. These national award winners are invited to Aachen. In the second stage, a European jury made up of three members of the European Parliament, the President of the European Parliament and four representatives of the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation in Aachen will select three projects from the national prize winners as 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners . The 1st prize is endowed with 5,000 EUR, the 2nd prize with 3,000 EUR and the 3rd prize with 2,000 EUR. The award ceremony will take place in Aachen. All national award winners are invited to the award ceremony, where all national projects are briefly presented.
Award winners
The participants and award winners show a great variety of ideas and initiatives in all countries of the EU. The projects that have received awards so far include youth exchange programs , artistic projects, media projects and internet projects. The competitions and winners since 2008 are documented on the Charlemagne Youth Prize page on the European Parliament's website.
