Karlsquell
Karlsquell is a beer brand that was sold in the branches of the Aldi Nord discounter chain for many years until the end of 2002 . Today Aldi Karlsquell offers malt beer.
Karlsquell is a registered word mark of Aldikauf GmbH & Co. oHG, Essen.
In Germany it was only sold in cans as noble pils . Sales ceased there with the introduction of the can deposit . In the meantime, Karlsquell is no longer available in Germany in its classic form as Pils beer in one-way cans. Aldi now sells “Maternus” pils in PET bottles , which are also produced in the (Karlsquell) Martens brewery in Bocholt (Belgium) . The beverage is only available in cans in Belgium, Poland, Luxembourg, France and Spain. In these countries, besides the Pilsner, there is sometimes also a strong beer variant and an alcohol-free beer.
Karlsquell malt and in the summer months also Karlsquell mixed beer beverages and (as a special offer) Karlsquell wheat (each in 0.5 l PET bottles) are again available from Aldi in Germany.
The song "Karlsquell" by the punk band Slime celebrates this beer. Canned beers of the Karlsquell and Hansa-Pils brands were considered a permanent accessory among many supporters of the punk movement and young people in Germany in the 1980s and 1990s because of their low price.
