Carnival in Veracruz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Veracruz Carnival is one of the most important carnival events in Mexico and one of the most famous in the world. It is the largest festival in the port city of Veracruz and all offices and offices in the city are closed on the days between Saturday and Tuesday. In addition, for the three nights from Saturday to Tuesday, the city's hotels are fully booked weeks in advance.

The main attraction are the carnival parades that in these four days between the city center and the suburb of Boca del Río on the along the Gulf of Mexico situated Boulevard Manuel Ávila Camacho take place daily. The connecting road, which is otherwise one of the main arteries of the two neighboring cities, will be completely withdrawn from car traffic during the “foolish days” and can then only be used by pedestrians. Grandstands will be set up on both sides of the street, between which the carnival parades will take place from the port to the suburb directly bordering the port city and vice versa. To get a seat on one of the grandstands, you have to buy a ticket that costs around 50 pesos . The first move takes place on Saturday evening and is almost always completely sold out, while the move takes place on Monday morning in front of half-empty stands.
