Karsten Weddige

Karsten Weddige is a German geologist and paleologist .

Career

From 1964 to 1966 Weddige studied physics and mathematics at the Technical University of Berlin . From 1966 to 1972 Weddige switched to geology and paleontology at the Philipps University of Marburg . After graduating, he stayed at the university as a doctoral student and received his doctorate in 1977. Until 1985 he worked as an assistant at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

In 1987 he finally moved to Wolfgang Struve's institute in Frankfurt am Main . Since 1990 he has headed the Department of Paleozoology . In 1993, Weddige began teaching at the vocational college for technical assistants for natural history museums and research institutes in Frankfurt am Main, where he taught until 2005.

Research interests

Weddige worked on the taxonomy of conodonts and on the chronology on the basis of conodonts, with which the stratifications of the Devonian period are structured in time. The resulting description of the tribal history ( phylogeny ) is a means of determining changes in today's most important key fossil of the Devonian age, i.e. the conodonts. The history of the earth as a whole is made visible from the supra-regional comparison of such findings.

In addition to his research and teaching activities, Weddige has been editor-in-chief of Senckenbergiana lethaea , a geological-palaeological journal, since 1994 . Weddige has been publishing the Devon biography electronically since 1995 and the Devonian Correlation Table (DCT) since 1996.
