Potato dextrose agar ( PDA from English Potato dextrose agar ) is a common nutrient medium for the cultivation of yeasts and molds .

An exemplary composition is 4 g / l potato starch , 20 g / l glucose and 15 g / l agar . Bacterial growth is suppressed either by acidifying with tartaric acid up to a pH value of 3.5 or by adding antibiotics ( chloramphenicol or chlortetracycline ).
