A carcinophobia ( Gr. Φόβος phóbosfear ”, “ phobia ”) describes the pathologically exaggerated fear of one's own cancer . It is counted among the hypochondriac disorders and is actually not a phobia, but a somatoform disorder .

As with other hypochondriac disorders, those affected are convinced that they have cancer. There is a persistent preoccupation with the disease, manifested by persistent typical physical complaints. Another guiding principle is the persistent refusal to accept the advice and reassurance of several doctors that the symptoms are not caused by a physical illness.

Carcinophobia is also known as cancerophobia or fear of cancer.
