The barracks am Goldenen Steig is a barracks of the army of the Bundeswehr in the Lower Bavarian town of Freyung in the district of Freyung-Grafenau in the state of Bavaria .
history
In 1960 the barracks were completed and the Panzergrenadierbataillon 111 (motorized) occupied; In 1966 it was converted to Panzergrenadierbataillon 243 and in 1970 it was converted to Mountain Armored Reconnaissance Battalion 8. Both associations were subordinate to the 1st Mountain Division. The barracks is named after the location on the Goldener Steig .
The 8th Reconnaissance Battalion, which is subordinate to the 12th Panzer Brigade , has been stationed in the barracks since 2007 .

The training area with an area of 218 ha is located 3 km northeast of the barracks.
