Barracks in Mauer (Vienna)

Between 1775 and 1918, soldiers were quartered in two barracks in Mauer , a later part of Vienna's 23rd district .

  • Upper barracks (Castel Sant'Angelo)
The Castel Sant'Angelo was a Meierhof in Mauer that belonged to the Jesuits . After the order was abolished, the building went to the military in 1775 , who used it as barracks until 1918 after renovations . The demolition took place between 1923 and 1926.
  • Lower barracks (Maurer Castle)
The mason's castle was in the wall that belonged to the Jesuits. After the order was abolished in 1773, the castle was handed over to the military in 1777, who, after renovations, used it as barracks until 1895. The demolition took place in 1895.

Between 1938 and 1949, the building of the air news troop barracks was also located on Maurer Berg (upper end of Anton-Krieger-Gasse) .
