Kasongo Ilunga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andre Kasongo Ilunga (* allegedly October 20, 1972 ) held the post of Foreign Trade Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for one day from February 5, 2007 as a representative of the Congolese small party Unafec (National Union of Federalists of the Congo) . Probably this person is purely fictional. It is unclear on whose instigation and why the nonexistent Unafec party member got on the list of ministers of the Congo.

Kasongo Ilunga was one of 60 ministers and deputy ministers nominated on February 5, 2007 by the cabinet of President Joseph Kabila . He was proposed to Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga in January 2007 by the Unafec party leadership, who presented him with a photo as Vice President of the Unafec local association Masina in the Congo capital Kinshasa and together with party leader Kisimba Ngoy as candidate for ministerial of their party. Gizenga chose Ilunga Kasongo. The day after the formation of the government, however, Kasongo allegedly submitted his resignation in writing to his party leader. The Unafec provincial chief of Katanga, the alleged home province of Ilungas, announced publicly shortly thereafter that there was no party member of this name in Katanga.

Two theories are circulating as to how the apparently non-existent Ilunga might have been appointed. According to the first theory, the party had not anticipated Ilunga's appointment and only intended to simulate the existence of personnel alternatives in the party. The second theory relates to the fact that the Unafec party leader proposed a " Pierre Ilunga " as the successor to Kasongo Ilunga . Pierre Ilunga, however, is a politically discredited former justice minister in the former warlord government of the Congo who, in this complicated way, may U. should come into the government.

A clarification by government spokesman Godefroid Mayombo that Kasongo Ilunga was by no means a fictional person led to three people with the name Kasongo Ilunga, which is quite common in the Congo, reporting and claiming the post of minister within a few days. However, all three were exposed as fraudsters by the Unafec party leader.
