From 1589 to 1603 Höchstädt Palace was built in the late Renaissance style. For many years it served Princess Anna von Jülich-Kleve-Berg as a widow's residence. The construction of the new castle required the construction of a box house to store the grain that had to be delivered, which had been kept in the old castle and other buildings until then. The foundation stone was laid in 1602 on behalf of Count Palatine Phillipp Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg . Twelve years later, the stately building was ready for its intended use. The builder was Gilg Vältin from Graubünden . The latter was in charge of the construction management of Höchstädt Castle and also designed the plans for the characteristic double-towered courtyard entrance to Haunsheim Castle .

The building erected on a slope has five storeys on the north side and three storeys on the south side. It also has four cellars. Particularly noteworthy are its baroque gables on both sides. The box house is privately owned and partially renovated.
