Katharina Curtius
Katharina Curtius , née Roeseler († 1629 in Bonn ) was a victim of the witch hunt in Bonn.
Life
Katharina Curtius was the daughter of the first Bonn pharmacist Gierhardt Roeseler, owner of the house "Zur Laurdannen" on Bonner Markt 42, corner of Bonngasse. In 1615 she married Ferdinand Curtius, who was also a pharmacist. After his death, she became the wife of a relative of the husband, Reiner Curtius.
In 1628 the couple bought the “Zum Sternenberg” house. Just one year later, Katharina Curtius was charged as a witch and interrogated by Franz Buirmann , the Cologne Witch Commissioner . Before his eyes Katharina Curtius wrote her will, in which she accused herself of “ blasphemy and great, gross vices”. Her husband became the sole heir to the substantial property as a result of the lawsuit. Her husband is said to have a very good relationship with Franz Buirmann and to have shown himself to be very generous in calculating the legal costs.
In 1629 Katharina Curtius was executed in Bonn for alleged witchcraft .
