An appeal against the destruction of the historic structure was dismissed by the Madras High Court . The demolished cathedral will be replaced by a new building on the same site. The foundation stone for the new St. Michaelis Cathedral is to be laid on May 12, 2013. The new cathedral will be in the historicist style. It was supposed to take two years [obsolete] to build and cost 100 million Indian rupees .
