Odsun Cathedral

The odzun church is Armenian Apostolic Church in the village Odsun in the province of Lori . The basilica was built in the 7th century and is said to go back to the Catholicos Howhannes Odsnezi, who was head of the Armenian Church from 717 to 728. Archaeological research suggests that the church is older. The central, sixteen-sided umbrella dome is supported by four free-standing supports. The basilica is surrounded by arcades on the north and south sides, which merge into a continuous wall with a portal on the west side.

To the north of the cathedral stands a tomb in the form of a horseshoe-shaped double arch made of tuff, each with a lighter stele , on a seven-step plinth . The meaning of the steles is not clear, they are dated to the 5th to 8th centuries. The only comparable tomb in Armenia was preserved in Aghitu in the province of Sjunik . There are also many clergy tombstones on the site of the cathedral.
